‘Fright Night’ Gets Bloody In New Red Band Clip

Just one more day until we get to see Craig Gillespie’s “Fright Night” remake of the horror-comedy classic in 3D.

To get you in the mood, IGN has released a brand new red-band clip which you can watch here — it should go without saying, this is not safe for work. Watch how hot things get when vampire fiend Jerry (Colin Farrell) terrorizes his neighbor, high school student Charley Brewster (Anton Yelchin), and Charlie’s mom (Toni Collette) and girlfriend (Imogen Poots).

If you want to avoid any and all spoilers for the film, skip past the jump and check out the best of this week’s horror news ? which features other things that bite.

‘Underworld: Awakening 3D’ Gets a Trailer
Kate Beckinsale and her skin-tight catsuit have returned to the “Underworld” franchise, and while the trailer for “Awakening” looks like more of the same, it’s still loaded with action and vampy goodness. Beckinsale returns as Selene, who escapes a years-long imprisonment and enters a strange new world. Humans are fighting to exterminate vampire and lycan clans, which threatens to erupt in total war. Mans Marlind and Bjorn Stein direct Stephen Rea, Michael Ealy, Theo James, India Eisley and Charles Dance for the January 20, 2012 release.

Take a Bite Out of This ‘Shark Night 3D’ Clip
It’s all fun and games until someone loses a foot. Relativity Media wants you to tear into this new clip from “Shark Night 3D”, which recently debuted on Fandango. The David R. Ellis eco-horror flick about a group of college friends who spend the weekend at a lake house in Louisiana promises to be “‘Jaws’” for the 3D generation.” Sharks show up and people die. What more do you need? This clip finds “Red Dawn” star Alyssa Diaz as Maya, hanging onto a speeding boat for dear life while a shark stalks closely behind her. Swim with the fishes on September 2.

Relive Hammer Horror With ‘The Woman in Black’ Trailer
Nothing says Hammer horror like foggy English villages, sinister specters haunting a mansion, and gothic scares. “The Woman in Black” has all of that and “Harry Potter’s” Daniel Radcliffe, who hasn’t appeared in a movie not about the wizard boy since 2007. He’s playing a young lawyer who arrives in a spooky, remote town to settle the affairs of a recently deceased client. While there, chilling tales about a mysterious woman in black prompt him to investigate her strange and unsettling story.

Thank Goth, Bradley Cooper is Not ‘The Crow’
Goths everywhere can breathe a sigh of relief: as reported on Splash Page, “The Hangover” star will not be taking on the role of the undead musician-turned-avenger, Eric Draven. Cooper’s schedule is preventing him from shooting the movie that will be directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo of “28 Weeks Later” fame. Relativity’s possible replacements? Mark Wahlberg and Channing Tatum. Wait, what? Bela Lugosi’s dead — again — over this news.

A Classic 1980′s Slasher Film is Reborn
The 1980 classic slasher film, William Lustig’s “Maniac”, is a nasty little movie. You might even want to shower after watching it, because it’s just that grimy. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that “High Tension” and “Piranha 3D” director Alexandre Aja will be bringing back the sleazy original that starred a creepy Joe Spinell. Aja and writing partner Grégory Levasseur have written the screenplay and will be producing the film about a serial killer who stalks women on the streets of New York City, abusing them in ways similar to how his crazed mother treated him. “P2″ director Franck Khalfoun will be helming the project. Check out the gory and gruesome trailer for the original “Maniac” over here.

Selena Gomez To Host 2011 VMA Pre-Show

With Lady Gaga slated to open the show and performances on tap from Lil Wayne and Adele, among others, the 2011 Video Music Awards are already mega. But things will heat up even before those stars take the stage thanks to Selena Gomez, who has been tapped to kick off the night’s festivities as the celebrity host on the pre-show black carpet.

The platinum recording artist and Emmy Award-winning actress will anchor the pre-show on Sunday, August 28, starting at 8 p.m. (live Eastern Time/ tape-delayed Pacific Time), reporting on breaking news and interviewing her peers alongside MTV’s team of correspondents, including Sway Calloway, Jim Cantiello and James Montgomery.

“I am very excited to be a part of the 2011 VMAs! After all of my years watching the VMAs, the pre-show has always been one of my favorite parts. It is a true honor to be hosting from the black carpet this year,” Gomez said in a statement.

Gomez will get some help from Cobra Starship, who will perform their dance hit “You Make Me Feel,” featuring Sabi, live during the VMA Pre-Show, which will also include an exclusive new teaser of “Jersey Shore.”

“We are so excited to be a part of the 2011 VMAs! I grew up watching them every year and it was an honor to be nominated two years ago and it is an even bigger honor to be able to play the pre-show this year,” said Cobra Starship guitarist Ryland Blackinton. “I will never forget when Pat Smear left the Foo Fighters live during the pre-show, and I’m planning on having him replace me this year.”

While Gomez is meeting and greeting the celebs on the black carpet, MTV News correspondents will bring you interviews with some of today’s hottest stars. We’ll set up shop in the lobby of a downtown Los Angeles hotel that is being transformed into a musical time portal featuring a paparazzi photo arena as the centerpiece to all the pre-show madness.

Who will follow Selena at the VMAs? Check out the big reveal!

In between, Cantiello will keep an eye on MTV News’ Twitter Tracker, which will provide updates on the global VMA conversation on Twitter and show the volume of Twitter traffic about VMA nominees, presenters, performers and attendees. He’ll also tweet photos from the paparazzi theater and ask fans to use them to make fan art and send them back so he can display them during the broadcast while he tweets about all the black-carpet action @MTV.

MTV News will also bring viewers a first look at the new Nicki Minaj video “Fly,” featuring Rihanna. The lead-in to the pre-show will be an all-new episode of “Jersey Shore” at 7 p.m. ET/PT, with the cast popping in to the live pre-show to predict who the night’s big winners will be.

As previously announced, Adele and Wayne will take the stage in addition to Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Young the Giant. Confirmed presenters include Jonah Hill, Rick Ross, Seth Rogen, Gomez, Kim Kardashian and Odd Future. MTV will announce additional performers and presenters in the coming days.

Would Lady Gaga Ever Want To Be President?

Lady Gaga has never been shy about stumping for political causes. She’s stumped for marriage equality and spoken out for marriage equality and against “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Her Born This Way track “Americano” even touches on immigration issues, but just because she’s currently pop music’s most vocal advocate doesn’t mean she’d want anything to do with actually holding public office.

During the live “MTV First: Lady Gaga” on Thursday night, the singer said that she has no aspirations to ever do something like become president, even if she was given a free pass for the day to be the leader of the free world.

Watch as Gaga lets her fans announce that she’s opening the VMAs this year.

“Well, first of all, I wouldn’t want to be president for the day,” she told MTV News. “And I say that because I really, for myself, it’s important that my message, although it has political implications, I like to keep myself separate.

“Because politics can constrain things,” she continued. “So our message can be completely free of any politics and we can just surge forward.”

Lady Gaga gave us the real story behind her “Yoü and I” video.

But she has a few big issues she thinks she’d tackle if she were the commander in chief. “I would find alternative uses of energy, I would make marriage equal,” she said, before taking a second to figure out her next pet cause. “And world peace. Well, I would do everything I could with the debt crisis, but we all know that’s going to take a little while.”

During the sit-down, Gaga also opened up about her just-released music video for “Yoü and I” and also shared with fans that not only would she be performing at the 2011 Video Music Awards on August 28, but she’ll also be the artist opening the show when it airs live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. See the list of nominees, revisit last year’s highlights and vote for your favorites in the general categories by visiting VMA.MTV.com.

Lady Gaga Explains Mermaid Sex In ‘Yoü And I’ Video

Lady Gaga packs a lot of visual punch into her “Yoü and I” video. She plays the piano, she plays a man named Jo Calderone, she furiously dances in a cornfield and a barn, and she even goes under some unusual procedures. The jarringly beautiful images include Gaga being transformed into many types of creatures by her mad scientist lover, including a mermaid called Yuyi.

Yuyi and the scientist don’t just hang out together in his barnyard lab, they also get it on. The scene is borderline NSFW and includes Yuyi’s and the scientist’s bodies gyrating in rhythm with one another. That being said, is it even possible for a man and mermaid to, you know, have sex with one another?

“Well, that’s actually part of what the metaphor is ? you can’t,” Gaga told an inquiring fan during her “MTV First: Lady Gaga” special on Thursday night, when she not only debuted the video on TV for the first time, but also revealed that she’s going to open the 2011 Video Music Awards on August 28, where she’s up for four nominations.

“Sometimes in love, you can’t make it work,” she continued about that particular scene. “No matter what you do, there’s this giant boundary between you and someone else. So that’s what it’s about, perceiving in your imagination that there’s something magical inside of you that you can make it work.”

It’s a real-life former love that has left an indelible mark on Gaga’s creative spirit, and she says that this video perfectly captures that. “For me, it was all about capturing the true spirit of the song, which is when you’re in love, you’ll be willing to walk and do the craziest and most inconvenient things you can possibly imagine,” she added. “The video is quite complex in the way that the story is told, and it’s meant to be slightly linear and slightly twisted and confusing, which is the way that love is.”
